In many places, winter is a season of bitter cold and numbing wetness, and that calls for extra car when it comes to our dogs.
Try not to leave your dog outside when the temperature drops. When you have to, for example when you take your dog for exercise, keep and eye on it. If your dog has an outdoor doghouse, make sure that it is draft-free and large enough for the dog to settle down comfortably. The house, moreover, should be turned to face away from the wind and its doorway should be covered with waterproof burlap or heavy plastic.
Another warming tip for your dog is providing more food served in plastic, rather than metal, bowls. Also make sure to keep the salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice, and the antifreeze away from your dog.
Dogs are one the best social animals who crave to be inside with their human friends. Just let them in the house, and enjoy your friendship in the warmth.
