Raising Homing Pigeons

Ever had one of those days when you are cleaning out your self storage and you kid asks you if they could get pet Homing pigeons. You smile and tell them you will have to think about it. Well here is a little information on those pigeons you may want to know.

Homing pigeons are trained to fly out and return to their home base.

They need suitable shelter and a good pigeon house. It should have enough space for them to move around. The pigeon house must have a loft that could be secured by wires to protect them from cats and other predators. It must be kept clean as much as possible. Some clean sand with tiny stones and shells should be on the flooring for the pigeons to pick on.In case of sick pigeons, separate them from the healthy ones to avoid contamination.

They feed on common whole grains, legume seeds, corn, soybean and rice. Keep their foods free from pests, molds and toxic substances. Don’t feed them with powdered grains. Keep grains available in an area inside the coop for pigeons to feed on.

Fresh water must be accessible in their shelter. These pigeons like to take baths especially during hot months. Keep the water container with a depth of about 7-8 cm for the pigeons to drink and dip in. You can also give them baths 2 or 3 times a week.

Homing pigeons can be trained as early as six months old. You have to help them get used to the place as ‘home’ and it takes a lot of practice to do so.

Homing pigeons have single mates through out their natural life, but some look for mates when their former mates die. It would be best to raise Homing pigeon in pairs.

Grooming For Your Dog

Grooming For Your Dog

Proper grooming is essential for your pet as part of overall care. It not only makes your dog look clean but even contributes to his physical health. Whether your dog has a long or short coat, brushing and combing keeps it clean and healthy by stimulating the skin. If you opt for professional grooming, it can help keep your pet safe from potential health problems like fleas, ticks, hairloss or any parasites.

Most dogs need to be groomed every four to six weeks, but certain breeds that are more hairy such as Pomeranians need it more frequently. No matter what breed and the type of fur, they should be brushed daily. They need to be bathed weekly with a good dog shampoo that will not dry out the skin or coat. Never use any other shampoo or cleaning product for your dog as it may harm his skin by drying, irritating and flaking, making the fur appear dull. Dogs can be groomed at home in between professional grooming visits to ensure a healthy coat. All dogs should be groomed from early years if they have long hair that needs clipping and should be trained to get used to human handling. Nail trimming is another thing that the pets and their owners dislike. You need to do it very cautiously to avoid hurting him. Most dogs need a trim once a month.

Your pets also need to be given vaccinations such as Parvo, canine distemper, rabies and canine before they enter a grooming salon. These vaccinations should start when he is 6-8 weeks old and they should not be exposed to other animals before receiving the complete series of vaccinations. A period of 2 weeks is needed after the vaccinations before they come in contact with other animals. This offers the maximum protection against diseases. You should also give a thought to getting a dog insurance, a lot of people get horse liability insurance, so why not one for your littlea poodle.
