Tips on Raising Quails

July 26th, 2011

Raising quail is an interesting hobby that can also yield tangible benefits, like quail eggs! However, raising quail requires commitment, time and effort. Here are a few tips on raising quail.

Make sure you have enough space for your birds. The space should not only accommodate the cages, but should also be roomy enough to allow for space to exercise. Ideally, this space should also include shelter from the sun and rain.

Limiting the male to female ration is also a good idea in order to reduce the risk of territorial issues between males. The norm in many commercial operations is to have a ratio of one male to three females. And no you won’t need supply ortak rings to marry the off they will mate regardless.

Regarding food, professional feed, though expensive, is probably best if you are new to quail raising, especially since there are specific blends targeted at the different growth stages. As you become more experienced, you may be able to mix your own blends of feed, incorporating less expensive ingredients. Fresh fruit and vegetables make a nice, healthy treat for quail, too.

Cages are the primary living space for the quail, so they should be sturdy. Most are made of wood and chicken wire, and they should protect from not only the elements, but from the risk of predators as well.

Some people claim that talking to these birds helps them to feel at home and loved. So you can try this and see what happens.
