Potty Training Your German Shepherd Pup

Potty Training Your German Shepherd Pup

After finishing our search for designer homeware, my wife and I visited a dog trainer to find out what we can do to potty train our German shepherd pup. He sat us down and gave us the following tips.

You must start training your puppy by housebreaking it. German shepherd puppies do not have good control over their bowels and bladder. You must not leave your puppy alone before it is housebroken. You need to be on your guard constantly or leave it in its crate. Also, you must keep the crate where your family members visit regularly. You need to be very consistent while potty training your German shepherd.

The moment you bring in the pup, take it out to a designated area for potty. Choose the door from where you will be taking it out every day. Attach a bell to the door and ring it every time you take it out. You can even make it ring the bell.

Always lead it out on a leash and don’t carry it out in your arms. When you reach the area say something like ‘go potty'and wait for it to defecate and urinate.

Praise it when it is done and lead it back on the leash. Offer it some food and water and play with it for some time. Take it out for potty again after 20 minutes.

Repeat this for a week or a month till your pup is trained. After some time, you will notice that it will ring the bell whenever it needs to do potty.

Gucci coated Chihuahua’s

Gucci coated Chihuahua’s

Celebrities and the social elite have long been at the forefront of pet trends and for the majority of times this is harmless enough. In actual fact it could well be argued that they positively influence and encourage others to take such pride in their furry friends. Celebrities such as Britney Spears and Hollywood ‘IT'girls spearheaded the spawn of designer clad pooches that were small enough in size to fit comfortably in their Burberry bags and accompany their owners on shopper sprees and coffee with friends a The Ivy … oh to be a Gucci coated Chihuahua. However one trend in celebrity pets’ville in not as sugar coated, as they ditch puppies for the peculiar…. The trend of the not so common pet. I’m not talking George Clooney and his pot bellied pig Max, I’m talking Hugh Hefner and his purported Zoo license. Paris Hilton is alleged to own a kinkajou – also known as a honey bar and Elvis Presley is said to have owned kangaroos. Now I know celebrities like to push the bar of social norm and exploit the clout that comes with the money they have in the bank but I believe this is a trend that should be stopped in its tracks – forever. Perhaps if we took inspiration from the Turkish language and used their word for common ‘ ortak ’, dogs and cats would be become enticing once more, celebrities can scrabble to be at the forefront of the ‘ ortak pet'trend … they’re silly like that.

Raising Homing Pigeons

Ever had one of those days when you are cleaning out your self storage and you kid asks you if they could get pet Homing pigeons. You smile and tell them you will have to think about it. Well here is a little information on those pigeons you may want to know.

Homing pigeons are trained to fly out and return to their home base.

They need suitable shelter and a good pigeon house. It should have enough space for them to move around. The pigeon house must have a loft that could be secured by wires to protect them from cats and other predators. It must be kept clean as much as possible. Some clean sand with tiny stones and shells should be on the flooring for the pigeons to pick on.In case of sick pigeons, separate them from the healthy ones to avoid contamination.

They feed on common whole grains, legume seeds, corn, soybean and rice. Keep their foods free from pests, molds and toxic substances. Don’t feed them with powdered grains. Keep grains available in an area inside the coop for pigeons to feed on.

Fresh water must be accessible in their shelter. These pigeons like to take baths especially during hot months. Keep the water container with a depth of about 7-8 cm for the pigeons to drink and dip in. You can also give them baths 2 or 3 times a week.

Homing pigeons can be trained as early as six months old. You have to help them get used to the place as ‘home’ and it takes a lot of practice to do so.

Homing pigeons have single mates through out their natural life, but some look for mates when their former mates die. It would be best to raise Homing pigeon in pairs.

Grooming For Your Dog

Grooming For Your Dog

Proper grooming is essential for your pet as part of overall care. It not only makes your dog look clean but even contributes to his physical health. Whether your dog has a long or short coat, brushing and combing keeps it clean and healthy by stimulating the skin. If you opt for professional grooming, it can help keep your pet safe from potential health problems like fleas, ticks, hairloss or any parasites.

Most dogs need to be groomed every four to six weeks, but certain breeds that are more hairy such as Pomeranians need it more frequently. No matter what breed and the type of fur, they should be brushed daily. They need to be bathed weekly with a good dog shampoo that will not dry out the skin or coat. Never use any other shampoo or cleaning product for your dog as it may harm his skin by drying, irritating and flaking, making the fur appear dull. Dogs can be groomed at home in between professional grooming visits to ensure a healthy coat. All dogs should be groomed from early years if they have long hair that needs clipping and should be trained to get used to human handling. Nail trimming is another thing that the pets and their owners dislike. You need to do it very cautiously to avoid hurting him. Most dogs need a trim once a month.

Your pets also need to be given vaccinations such as Parvo, canine distemper, rabies and canine before they enter a grooming salon. These vaccinations should start when he is 6-8 weeks old and they should not be exposed to other animals before receiving the complete series of vaccinations. A period of 2 weeks is needed after the vaccinations before they come in contact with other animals. This offers the maximum protection against diseases. You should also give a thought to getting a dog insurance, a lot of people get horse liability insurance, so why not one for your littlea poodle.

Emotional Dogs

Emotional Dogs

As a dog lover we all would like our dogs to be happy and satisfied with its surroundings. However this is not always possible, since just like humans they can also develop emotional disorders. I am not sure if this is due to spending a lot of time with humans that they catch this attribute or if it’s something natural for dogs. The emotional disorder can become highly visible for dogs that have been with their owners since they were a puppy. Due to the long time the dog has spent with the owner it would show signs of emotional disorder in the absence of its owner. Dogs can become sad or frustrated and in some instances they may also get angry. On the other hand dogs can be excited of certain situations. For example, when the owner comes home, dogs get very excited, they can also show excitement when they know that you are going to take them out for play.

While all dogs have emotions, the type and the intensity of emotions will vary. A major differentiation would be the difference in emotions between the male dogs and the female dogs. One of the most difficult emotions to deal with is anxiety or frustration, as this can easily become a life sentence for your dog. To get rid of this you will need to spend more time with your dog, doing a lot of exercise and fun activities, helping your dog to see the brighter side of life. If your dog is sad even you, as an owner would not be able to enjoy its company. You will always see a lack of activity on your dog’s part. Now, buying a horse insurance will not help your pet, but in this situation it is also good to let your dog mingle with other dogs. At the end of the day if your dog is happy then you as a dog lover will also be extremely satisfied.

Puppy Rules

Puppy Rules

Getting a pup home can be a great source of joy for the entire family, especially if one is staying alone. But there are a few precautionary actions that one needs to take before and while getting a pup home. These will ensure that ground rules are set, right from the beginning for you as the pet’s owner and for the new family member.

One of the cardinal rules of pup intake is, never adopt a baby before 42 days. That is the minimum time that the pup needs with its mother for feeding, and snatching it away before this time could lead to irrational behavior and deformed growth for the baby. This whining period will allow the pup to remain healthy throughout its life.

On the first night, the pup is bound to feel lonely and miss his siblings and mother. Try and get a cloth piece or Nyla bone for the puppy and keep it in his crater or basket. The cloth should be the piece that carries the smell of his littermates and mother and this will provide great comfort to the baby during the initial days of settling in his new home.

Naming the puppy as soon as possible is very important and the name should be such that it is clearly audible. It should be longer than the one syllable as it is then easier for the pup to hear it and intake it clearly. Whenever you are petting, playing or fondling the dog, keep repeating the name for the pup to adapt to his name immediately.

One must not bathe the dog for at least four months. One must also not tie the dog with body belts etc. before the age of three years; this kind of tying could lead to deformed organ formation or severe growth deficiencies in some organs of the canine.

The other important aspect that one must immediately attend to upon adoption of a pup is its toilet training. Dogs tend to excrete or urinate at the same spot often because they associate the smell with the place. Therefore always wash the spot with caustic soda if you don’t want the dog to do it in the same place again. There are visible signs of discomfort that one must watch out, in the dog just before it wants to urinate or pass stool. Immediately rush the pet to the toilet and make this a habit right from the beginning. A lapse on this even once can ruin the toilet training habit for the baby.

Occasionally take the pup out for a stroll and let him see other stray dogs. This will prevent your baby from barking unnecessarily once it grows up upon seeing other dogs.

Always ensure your pup has had the necessary vaccinations and injections before any training is started. It is important the pup has been examined by the vet before it is adopted or upon adoption to avoid any growth related secrets or behavioral deficiencies.

Owing a pup is as good and as demanding as bringing up your own baby. Patience holds the key to success here as well. However, it is till easier to bring up a puppy than a horse and you do not have to worry about issues like horse insurance.

How To Introduce Your New Kitten to Your Old Cat

Most people consider introducing a new kitten with their older one as one of the hardest work. But you can handle this situation without facing any problem if you have a plan. And while you are working on your plan, the first thing you need to make the plan work is patience. It takes time for animals to accept a new member in the family. And when you are planning on the introduction, keep their age, behavior, size in mind.

Now, let’s talk about the first step of your plan. When you have entered the house with the new kitten, don’t take him in front of the old cat. Take the kitten into the decided place directly and take him out from the carrier. Have patience and let the kitten explore the room. Take the blank carrier with you and come out from the room. Keep it on the floor and start doing your regular work while observing the old cat. See how your old cat responds after exploring the carrier. Different cats act differently in this situation, some cats might start attacking the carrier while other cats might look at it with a lot of excitement. Don’t interrupt even if he acts weirdly. He might run away and come back for it again and again. Just wait until he loses all its interest from the carrier. Have patience and observe it carefully. In a scientific research, it was noticed that cats try to get familiar with its environment first before starting socializing. When it’s done, take some food for the kitten and go back to your new kitten. Don’t take any action that can startle the kitten. Let him roam freely in the room.

After you are done with the first step, try to keep in a place where they can see each other but make any physical contact. And when you think it’s the right time, let them make physical contact and see what happens. Don’t interrupt even if they start fighting. Eventually, they will adjust nicely. You will get the best outcome of this plan if you handle it with patience. So now you can spend the time you want to buy that jewellery online since everyone is getting along fine.

Understanding your pet dog’s body language

Understanding your pet dog’s body language

If you have a pet dog at home then you must have often noticed that your dog is trying to tell you something when he becomes excited and wags his tail. Most of the times the dog wants to play with his master or wants some attention. As dogs cannot speak, they use this unique way of communicating through exterior signs to inform their master what they want and expect from him.

Therefore, communication between the owner and the dog is very important for a proper relationship between the two, because if you cannot have good communication or do not understand what he wants, chances are that you will never get him to abide to your commands and orders.

Dogs usually express their happiness by wagging their tails, but it may also be a sign that they will become aggressive shortly afterwards. So you should carefully watch your dog and try to understand and interpret what your pet dog is trying to inform you or wants you to do. You can also watch his behavior and language style with other dogs. By using this simple technique you can know the type of behavior he usually has.

There are times when the dog has his hair standing up on the back. In such cases you must understand that your pet dog is not very sure of the situation that he is presently facing. If he has his ears drawn back on his head it is also another indication that he is not completely sure of the situation. In normal position, the hairs of the dog do not stand up and also his ears remain in the usual position. It is an indication that your dog does not feel threatened by his surroundings or people.

If the dog shows his teeth and stiffens up his body, it means that he is not comfortable with his surroundings. So you should remove him from the spot immediately as he may become aggressive if he remains in this situation.

Sometimes you will find that your dog barks at you when you are talking to him. This means that he is trying to tell you something or wants something. If you understand his language and respond correctly, you can be sure to have a long and lasting relationship with your dog.
